Our Story

About Matt...
Matt lives in Derby, Kansas (a suburb of Wichita) and is a banker.  He graduated from Wichita State University and is a diehard Kansas Jayhawks fan...but he is quickly building his Baylor t-shirt collection. Matt loves spending time with his dog...and driving the 140 or so miles to Emily's condo in Oklahoma City.  He really likes Emily.

About Emily...
Emily is the wedding director at a church in north Oklahoma City.  Needless to say, it is way more fun to plan her own wedding!  Emily graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University and loyally cheers for the Baylor Bears...although she recently became a pretty big KU fan!  She loves spending time with her friends and exploring her soon-to-be hometown in Kansas.  She really likes Matt.

How we met...
Emily's college roommate and Matt's church friend Courtney played matchmaker...turns out she knew what she was doing!  Four months and thousands of miles across the Oklahoma-Kansas border, they were ready to be done with a long-distance relationship!

First date...
July 9, 2011 at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.  It was a cool 115 degrees that night...nice night for a baseball game?!?!

Biggest surprise...
A week before the proposal, Matt flew Emily to Atlanta to meet his mom.  She had no idea until he handed her a boarding pass at the Wichita airport!

Engagement...
Matt proposed November 16, 2011 on the last day of their trip to New York City.  They went to New York to cheer on the Kansas Jayhawks at Madison Square Garden and visit Emily's sister.  They spent four days exploring the city, ice skating, and talking to every single person in a Kansas shirt.  After a few great days in the Big Apple, Emily had no idea what was coming.  On a rainy walk through Riverside Park, Matt popped the question and Emily said yes!

Favorite things to do together...
Driving to see each other.  A lot.
Late night phone calls
Exploring Wichita and Oklahoma City
Planning fun trips and future vacations
Watching basketball (Emily is learning!)
Cook...well, maybe one day?!
